What An Operations Command Center Actually Does

A dashboard shows numbers. A command center shows what needs a decision today.

From reporting to operating

Most reporting describes the past. It tells leadership what happened last month, long after the point where intervention would have changed the outcome.

An operations command center is built around the present: what arrived today, what has not been answered, what is ageing and who owns it.

The three questions it should answer

Where is work stuck, why is it stuck and who is responsible for unsticking it. If a view cannot answer those three questions at a glance, it is decoration.

Once those answers are visible daily, management conversations shift from reconstructing events to resolving them.
